On 30 August 2023, the Danish Competition Council approved REMA 1000 Denmark A/S’s (“REMA 1000”) acquisition of 114 stores, seven store projects, three distribution centres, five properties, employees and operating fixtures and equipment from ALDI Danmark ApS.
Despite the scope of the transaction, REMA 1000 only had to commit to divesting a limited number of stores to ensure that the merger does not harm competition in any local area.
The agreement to sell ALDI Danmark ApS was signed in December 2022 and has awaited approval from the Danish Competition Council. The approval was obtained without any extension of the original deadline, which is unusual in cases subject to approval.
