Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (“CIP”) has invested in a green ammonia project in the municipality of Sauda, Norway.
The project means that a Power-to-X plant will be constructed. The name of the new plant will be Iverson eFuels, and, according to plan, the plant is expected to be fully operational at the beginning of 2027.
Iverson eFuels is constructed by a consortium consisting of the German hydrogen firm Hy2gen, the commodity trading group Trafigura from Singapore and CIP.
When the plant is operational, it will have an electrolyser capacity of 240 megawatts, equal to a daily production of 600 metric tonnes of green ammonia. The plan is to significantly scale up production in the future.
The green ammonia will be used as fuel for ships as an alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
The location of Iverson eFuels in Sauda on the southwestern coast of Norway makes it possible to exploit the area’s abundant hydropower and the well-functioning harbour for the export of green ammonia.
